Importance

We’re living longer

The world has changed due to medical advances and for that reason we are living longer. The longer you live, the greater the risk of contracting a serious illness.

100 years ago, you were lucky to live to 50; now life expectancy is 77 for men and 81 for women (www.statistics.gov.uk)  That’s around an extra 30 years to contract a serious illness.

Cancer Research UK state that every two minutes someone is diagnosed with cancer in the UK. There are more than 200 types of cancer, each with different causes, symptoms and treatments. There were around 309,500 new cases of cancer diagnosed in 2008 in the UK.

1 in 3 chances in getting cancer

It’s estimated that one in three of us develops some form of cancer during their lifetime. More the reason to consider term assurance or income protection policies designed to either pay a lump sum or pay regular payments to your beneficiaries.

The cost of running your family

One spouse or partner is usually the main wage earner. Ask yourself, how to substitute the loss of a main income and support the day to day costs of a family, especially with children, that’s a real challenge.

Why people ignore

There is an ignorance of risk and a belief that it would never happen to them. No homeowners like to think about repossession; therefore don’t take out the necessary insurance.
